Mini buffet is also known as drop-off buffet. In a mini buffet, there are usually no chaffing trays, warmers or table settings provided. Customers receive food in disposable aluminum trays or in food boxes instead.

Customers can also choose to pick up the food directly from the caterers instead of having them delivered.

Most caterers offer mini buffets as part of their standard menu to cater to smaller groups of guests and those who prefer a frills-free dining experience without the trappings of a full buffet spread. Such buffets are economically priced and feature smaller spreads of fingerfoods.

Usual items found in a mini buffet spread include deep fried food like spring rolls, dumplings, sandwiches and simple noodle or fried rice dishes. Beverages, if included are usually bottled drinks.
